For some obscure reason this website was offline for a while but has now been reactivated. The Garden continues to grow thanks to a very small but dedicated group of volunteers. We are also pleased to have groups from Life Without Barriers, Mai-wel and Richmond PRA as part of the gardening community.
For those people out there who have not visited the Garden in the past 12 months it is still growing but with a slightly altered structure.
The Garden is now maintained by a small but dedicated and hardworking group of volunteers who give of their own time and money to ensure that the Garden continues to be an asset to the Wickham Croatian Sports Club on whose land it operates.
Those wishing to join the Figtree Community Garden Association must be financial members of the Club.
Instead of an official meeting on 23rd December 2012 we will be having a social gathering of members at 1pm. All members and their families are welcome to attend and please bring a plate to share.
Our next Get together and Working Bee is on Sunday 2nd September from 10am. It is also Father’s Day so there will be a free Bacon and Egg Sandwich at 11 for all the Dad’s.
Come along and see what is happening in the Garden as the new but enthusiastic Committee strives to meet the needs of our Gardeners and the Croatian Club.
Figtree Community Garden has not ceased operating and an interim Committee is currently working on continuing the operation of the Garden in a manner that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
March working bee was more about raising seeds, planting and having fun – we welcomed 4 new members and Kristy worked with volunteers to plant potatoes and go through the Fig Tree seeding , planting and growing way.
Many thanks to Kristy for offering her vast knowledge and experience and also many thanks to the people who attended.
Well, it seems Spring has decided to make an early appearance and everyone took advantage of the beautiful weather and headed down to Fig Tree to get their hands dirty.
The chicken palace got a good spring clean thanks to some lovely volunteers.
The chickens also got some volunteer cuddles.
There were wheelbarrow loads of fresh compost to spread over our new raised beds.
And lots of new seedlings were planted in preperation for a spring harvest.
The kids (and the big kids amongst us) got their hands dirty in a different way…by designing and painting their own garden bird as part of the Octapod mural grant work.
And everyone else got busy with their bird painting.
After all that hard work, it was time to get some lunch prepared.
The Fig Tree Community Garden Working Party have been busy installing new garden beds over the last couple of months, thanks to funds made available via the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program. This grant enables Fig Tree Community Garden to not only upgrade garden beds, but also build wheelchair and pram friendly pathways and upgrade the outdoor kitchen. The first stage of the grant works is building the beds, then we will move onto the pathways, then the kitchen. All works will be completed by the end of 2011.
If you are interested in volunteering to assist with any major works, the Working Party are at the garden every Thursday from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Feel free to drop by and introduce yourself. Any spare hands makes a huge difference to getting our grant work completed on time, which is greatly appreciated.
